Let’s start by saying what it’s not. It’s not the optimistic viewpoint vs. the pessimistic viewpoint (i.e. glass half full vs. glass half empty). It’s not turning every negative into a positive (because there are truly negative things that happen), and looking for the silver lining in every cloud.
What it IS, is learning how to manage life’s challenges by changing our point of view, or our perspective. If we describe perspective as the window through which we view a situation, then changing our perspective simply means looking at the same situation out a different window.
Not everyone has the desire, is able, or is ready to change or transform their lives. Some folks just want to be happy and fulfilled with what they have. And, not everything in life can be changed. For example, although we can “turn back the hands of time” cosmetically, we cannot change our chronological age. Your birthday is your birthday. We can and should be the best version of ourselves at every life stage, instead of mourning what once was.
Perhaps you are thinking, “Is the secret to a happier, more fulfilling life really this easy? It can’t be.” Well, I am living proof that while it’s more than just moving to a new “window”, it’s not brain surgery. With lots of practice and patience, and of course an excellent Coach you can master #perspectiveshift.
